Marketing in the 21st Century: Issues and Challenges

About the Conference

The last decade of the twentieth century witnessed two very significant developments in the world of business. First, the Government of India initiated economic reforms in the country in 1991 which focused on liberalization, privatization and globalization of the business operations. It opened doors for the foreign multinational enterprises to explore Indian market and at the same time Indian business firms had an opportunity to penetrate foreign markets. Second, World Trade Organization (WTO) was established on January 1, 1995 consequent upon the conclusion of the Uruguay Round of international trade negotiations. The latter established the legal framework for the smooth and proper conduct of Multilateral Trading System besides increasing market access for the member countries of WTO. The rules of international trading were laid down. These two developments coupled with challenges thrown by the environmental concerns and convergence of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) led to more opportunities and challenges for the marketers both at home and abroad.
